Tips on how to remove a splinter

Remove it as soon as possible.

1. Get a scotch tape or masking tape, put it in affected area, then pull it off. It should remove the splinter easily. Wash it with betadine after removing the splinter.

2. If #1 does not work because it is embedded deep, get a tweezers or a needle; pull the splinter out. Wash with betadine after removing the splinter. You should do this as soon as # 1 failed to work. Do not wait longer because it would swell and removing it by then would be painful.

3. If # 1 and #2 do not work, clean the affected area with Betadine, make a paste of 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda and water, put it on affected area and bandage it. After a day, remove the bandage and rinse the area, the splinter will be sticking out and you can remove it easily.

4. If #1, 2, and 3 do not work. See your Doctor.

Egg Tips

The ever reliable eggs. I wonder how many eggs are cooked every day, all over the world.

1. If you are into boiling eggs, and you always get cracked boiled eggs, then there is something that you can do. To prevent egg shells from cracking, add a pinch of salt to the water before hard-boiling.

2. Brush beaten egg white over pie crust before baking to yield a beautiful glossy finish.

3. You want to know if the egg is fresh? To determine whether an egg is fresh, immerse it in a pan of cool, salted water. If it sinks, it is fresh-if it rises to the surface, throw it away. You do not want the bad smell around.

4. Now, finally, you want to know how to quick peel eggs in no time? Watch the video below and be entertained.

What else can you do with Alka-Seltzer?

What is Alka-Seltzer?

Alka-Seltzer is a remedy for headache, indigestion, gas, stomach cramps, and heartburn. Sodium bicarbonate in Alka-Seltzer also makes it effective in treating mild blood acidosis associated with allergy. Alka-Seltzer is a combination of aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid, C9H8O4), sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3), and citric acid (C6H8O7), designed to treat pain and simultaneously neutralize excess stomach acid (the "Alka" being derived from the word "alkali").

With the above composition of Alka-Seltzer, what else can we do with it?

Well, we can:

  • Clean a toilet-drop in two Alka-Seltzer tablets, wait twenty minutes, brush, and flush. The citric acid and effervescent action clean vitreous china.
  • Clean a vase-to remove a stain from the bottom of a glass vase or cruet, fill with water and drop in two Alka-Seltzer tablets.
  • Polish jewelry-drop two Alka-Seltzer tablets into a glass of water and immerse the jewelry for two minutes.
  • Clean a thermos bottle-fill the bottle with water, drop in four Alka-Seltzer tablets, and let soak for an hour (or longer, if necessary).
  • Unclog a drain-clear the sink drain by dropping three Alka-Seltzer tablets down the drain followed by a cup of Heinz White Vinegar. Wait a few minutes, then run the hot water.
